Comic Book Cosplay Wrestling

With the mecca of all nerdy fanboy events (San Diego Comic Con) starting this week, and Brian Cage demonstrating how easily wrestlers can bring comic book characters to life, here’s a playlist of matches involving wrestlers cosplaying as superheroes/villains.

Booking WrestleMania (The Video Game)

The Internet Wrestling Community (IWC) A.K.A. wrestling fans in general, usually celebrate the month leading up to WrestleMania by posting up on forums and complaining about the current WrestleMania card and booking their own dream WrestleMania. It’s nothing but an exercise in futility. Then again, being a wrestling fan usually is. So instead of booking a card that I feel WWE should’ve put together for this year’s WrestleMania and disappointing myself further, I figured I’d book a completely fictitious WrestleMania card inspired by wrestling characters from different pop culture mediums (film, comic books, and video games), starting with video games.

Fictional Comic Book Luchadores & Their Lucha Underground Counterparts

Screen Shot 2016-01-26 at 9.50.13 PMWith Lucha Underground fully embracing their comic book influences and releasing their own comic book yesterday, and with the premiere of season two tonight, it only made sense to make this list of the best fictional comic book luchadores. With many of the heroes and villains of Lucha Underground borrowing from the same supernatural themes and conventions found in these comic books, it also made sense to compare the comic book characters to their Lucha Underground counterparts.

Royal Rumble Final Four

RR1992-3The Royal Rumble is upon us once again to help make Roman Reigns look even stronger. Last year, I took a look at the best #1 and #2 entrants. This year, I decided to showcase the top ten final four competitors. Because as fun as the Rumble is, everyone knows the best part is when it’s down to the last four wrestlers.

Best #1 & #2 Royal Rumble Entrants

Royal-Rumble-1988With the 2015 Royal Rumble upon us, I’d be a fool not to make this month’s 10 Count! Royal Rumble related. With so many lists out there I figured I’d take a look at the top 10 first two Rumble entrants. These guys usually help set the tone for the Rumble. It’s even better when the two guys have some sort of backstory. This is a marquee WWE event, second only to WrestleMania, so you need to start it off with the right pair of wrestlers because, no disrespect to D’Lo Brown, are you seriously going to give a shit when the first two entrants are D’Lo and Grand Master Sexay?

Paid for by the Following: Juicy Drop

IMG_2017In case you forgot, Juicy Drop was the official sponsor of the WWE pay-per-view/Network special Extreme Rules 2014. Apparently this candy has been around for quite a while which I was not aware of. Before luchadores, skaters were shilling the candy. Guess it was time for a reboot. I’m not quite sure why a wrestler, let alone a luchador, would be the right type of spokesperson for a candy commercial. They at least could’ve gone for an actual wrestler, as opposed to a fake luchador, but I guess hiring an actual wrestler would’ve cost more. This is Juicy Drop after all, it’s not like they have that sweet Post Fruity/Cocoa Pebbles money.

Wrestlemaniac (2006)

Finally, a wrestling-themed horror film. Minus all the things that make horror films good. Sadly, the wrestling concept is the least campiest thing about this movie. At least it stars a killer in a lucha libre mask! Although to be fair, it’s probably the least intimidating lucha libre mask ever. WCW’s Ciclope had a much scarier mask. Read on if you dare!

All-American Attire

SamSwagger

Two 10 Counts! in two consecutive weeks? 100 views, here I come. Rather than honoring our Independence Day by taking out aliens and dragging their dead carcasses across the desert taking a look at some of the most patriotic moments or wrestlers in the history of wrestling, let’s take a real close look at the clothes they wore while wrestling in the name of the U-S-A. A patriotic close look. The Underdog Wrestler

Underdog2The underdog gimmick has evolved so much throughout the years that it can be divided up into subcategories. Before, a wrestling underdog wasn’t much of a contender and had no real hopes of winning, aside from pulling off an upset or two. Now, the underdog can take the form of a smaller-than-average, but scrappy wrestler with a never say die attitude, to a loveable loser type who fares better in backstage skits, than inside the ring; to a talented wrestler who’s good enough to win, and can, but never gets a fair shake. This post will focus on those wrestlers who were consistently put in David and Goliath type situations (both figuratively or literally), and built careers out of being long-term Davids.
