With International Women’s Day having just passed, and it being National Women’s History Month, I realized I could do more to spotlight the representation of women’s wrestling (both good and bad) in pop culture. And wouldn’t you know it, there’s enough TV episodes featuring women wrestling to make a top ten list. These are the best ones.
The year’s wrapping up, and in the world of professional wrestling, journalists, fans, bloggers, etc., will be declaring their wrestlers and matches of the year. However, here at Cheap Pop Culture, I’d rather give you a breakdown of all the times pro wrestling reared its red-headed step child head in the world of pop culture. Unlike most sitcoms, My Name is Earl had a high concept which centered on this low-life dude who wins the lottery, but then immediately gets hit by a car. Having learned what karma is, Earl creates a long list of all the people he’s ever wronged and plans to use his money to right those wrongs. In this episode he helps a woman become a Black Lady of Wrestling and also have a baby.

Sadly, Marc Maron has decided to end his show Maron after it’s fourth season. Personally, I thought it was just as as good as his podcast. Especially, if you wanted to actually see Maron work through his personal issues instead of just hearing him talk about them. Anyway, here’s a wrestling-ish episode that features CM Punk and Colt Cabana, both of whom were guests on previous episodes of WTF with Marc Maron.

Proving why The Undertaker has been so successful for all these years, comes another show dealing with the occult that somehow manages to work in pro wrestling as part of the plot. Side note: “Wrestling with Demons” should’ve been the title of the Jake “The Snake” Roberts documentary.

Title: Trailer Park Boys
Bio: The Green Bastard roams the Sunnyvale Trailer Park looking to take on all comers. As long as they take off their shirts. Has only had one professional backyard wrestling bout, Â which was a tag team match that saw him on the losing end due to a disqualification.
Signature Move: Hammerin’ people.
